Bonnard

Nature as a standard

Curator: Véronique Serrano

The spring exhibition at the Musée Bonnard, Bonnard, Nature as a Standard, is part of the Musée d'Orsay's 100 Works that Tell the Story of the Climate initiative.

It highlights the major influence of nature in Pierre Bonnard's art, while also exploring contemporary environmental issues. At the heart of this presentation is La Symphonie Pastorale, an exceptional work on loan for the occasion. True to his maxim "Art can never do without nature," Bonnard drew inspiration from his natural environment, cultivating a deep relationship with it from his childhood in Isère, and later settling in isolated locations.

The artist sought to transcend reality by capturing and enhancing the essence of nature, particularly through the play of light and harmony. The Pastoral Symphony embodies this vision of nature in perfect unity with humanity, with its vibrant colors and soft light creating an atmosphere of serenity. The exhibition thus invites us to reflect on the fragility of nature and its fundamental role in human balance.
