Tal Coat

The fierce freedom to paint

Curator: Jean-Pascal Léger, Bruno Ely

Until March 11, 2018, the Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence presents an exceptional retrospective of the painter Pierre Tal Coat, present in its collections since 1985.

The public can discover chronologically nearly 180 works that present his career as a painter, from his figurative and sometimes very expressionist beginnings to the so-called "abstract" period too hastily after his stay in Aix-en-Provence (1940 to 1956), where his work evolved considerably in the light of Provence.

Alongside the paintings and watercolors of Cézanne presented on the ground floor, the public can discover Tal Coat an artist inspired by the father of modern art, choosing in the 40s to settle in the city of Aix , in the heart of landscapes and places - notably Château Noir - made famous by Cézanne.
